The Fulton County school board announced Wednesday that Katha Stuart will replace District 1 representative Linda Schultz, who is retiring.
School board members are expected to vote at a meeting Tuesday on the selection of Stuart as Schultz's replacement. Schultz stepped down last month to spend more time with her family. District 1 includes areas in Alpharetta and Roswell.
Following Schultz’s announcement, the school board asked potential replacement candidates to submit letters of interest with a resume. From these, the board selected Stuart as its finalist to serve out the remaining months of Schultz’s term, which ends Dec. 31, 2016.
Filling out that term does not guarantee a future seat on the board. Candidates must still qualify with the Secretary of State’s office and run during the November 2016 election.
A 20-year resident of District 1 and a parent of two teenagers, Stuart has been involved in Fulton school activities since her children started kindergarten at Mountain Park Elementary, according to a statement the school district released.
Stuart has served in various PTA and School Governance Council (formerly Local School Advisory Council) positions at Mountain Park Elementary School, Crabapple Middle School and Roswell High School.
She also has been a part of the Superintendent’s Community Advisory Committee since 2009. At the local and state PTA level, she has served as a vice president of programs for the North Fulton Council PTA and as a committee member for the Georgia PTA.
“Katha Stuart is well known and well respected in the District 1 community. We are excited about her experience and the new perspectives she will bring to our governance work,” said Linda McCain, school board president, in a released statement.
Stuart holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Georgia State University. She is employed as an independent marketing consultant and had previous roles as a regional vice president for both Berger Funds and INVESCO Funds Group, according to the school district.
She and her husband, John, live in Roswell with their two daughters who are in their sophomore and senior years at Roswell High School.
