The Fulton County elementary school that posted the highest scores on the state’s third-grade English test is Abbotts Hill Elementary School, according to 2018 Georgia Milestones results released by the state today.

The milestones are standardized tests that were first administered in 2015. Test scores place students in four categories: beginning learner, developing leader, proficient learner and distinguished learner.

“We are pleased with the performance of many of our schools, but recognize there are considerable opportunities for improvement,” said Fulton County Schools Superintendent Jeff Rose, in a written statement. “I also believe in our plan and most importantly our students, staff and communities. We will use this important data to inform our decisions and strategies heading into the new school year.”

Students who can’t read by third grade are likely to struggle academically, making that testing year a significant one that can predict future student success.

The elementary schools in Fulton County that posted the highest percentage of students scoring proficient and above in third-grade English language arts on the 2018 tests are:

Abbotts Hill Elementary School -- 82.6
