Fulton County’s school system is hosting a career fair to hire teachers for some of the district’s underperforming schools.

Fulton is looking to fill positions in its Achievement Zone, a cluster of 10 schools that make up the Banneker High School attendance boundary in south Fulton and Banneker’s feeder schools.

The event will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the new McNair Middle School, 2800 Burdette Road in College Park.

Launched last spring, the Achievement Zone “focuses on accelerating and concentrating research-based reform efforts to improve schools that traditionally have had obstacles to student achievement, such as higher poverty and student mobility,” according to a statement from Fulton schools. The Achievement Zone “provides specific resources to help the students in these schools.”

Banneker High School was identified for support because of its lower graduation rate and struggling academic progress. Other schools that make up the Achievement Zone are McNair Middle School, Woodland Middle School, Bethune Elementary School, Brookview Elementary School, College Park Elementary School, Feldwood Elementary School, Heritage Elementary School, Mt. Olive Elementary School and Love T. Nolan Elementary School.

Job candidates are encouraged to preregister online but walk-ins are accepted. Prospective teachers should bring 10 copies of their resume as well as a copy of their teaching certificate.
