Four incumbents on the DeKalb County Board of Education have qualified to run for re-election, and none has opposition to another term.

Board members Stan Jester, Vickie Turner, Joyce Morley and vice chair Michael Erwin all are running unopposed for another two-year term.

Erwin and Morley are the last of six appointed to the board by Gov. Nathan Deal in 2013 after ousting most of the board after SACS expressed concern with poor governance and put the district on probation.

Since then, the district has seen a turnaround leading it from a $14-million deficit to a $90-million surplus, increases in standardized test scores, attendance and morale.

Current Superintendent Steve Green is on a mission to improve all schools that could find themselves in Deal’s Opportunity School District, based on performance, by addressing deficiencies before the end of the year.
