Another of Georgia’s former congressmen is headed to academia.
Former U.S. Rep. Bob Barr, who represented Georgia’s 7th District from 1995 to 2003, will teach classes this fall at Kennesaw State University.
Barr, a four-term congressman, will be a part-time assistant professor at KSU teaching an undergraduate course titled “The Constitution and Public Policy.” The upper-level political science course will examine the Constitution from a historical standpoint and apply that analysis to contemporary public policies in areas including property rights, health care, the Second Amendment and national security, according to Kerwin Swint, KSU’s political science department professor and chairman.
Barr, who currently practices law in Atlanta and ran unsuccessfully for Georgia's 11th Congressional District seat last year, has previously taught courses on privacy and public policy at Kennesaw State in 2008, 2009 and 2013.
His KSU announcement follows that of former U.S. Rep. John Barrow, who will be teaching at the University of Georgia in the fall as a scholar in residence in UGA's School of Public and International Affairs.
Classes begin at Kennesaw State on Aug. 17.
