Billy Martin, a retired New York City firefighter who was at the World Trade Center when it was hit by the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, recently spoke with Erica Luther and Don Swaney's freshman English class at Rockdale County High School. Martin talked about his experiences that day and the after-effects he and other firefighters and workers on the ground endured in the days after 9/11. For many of the students, who were not yet born in 2001, this was their first time hearing firsthand from an eyewitness about 9/11, and Swaney said they were transfixed.
