Lily Pabian, parent of a Elkins Pointe Middle School student, received a 2017 Georgia Parent Leadership Award sponsored by the Georgia Department of Education and the Georgia PTA, an honor given each year to up to six parents statewide. As a winner, Pabian becomes a one-year honorary member of the State Superintendent's Parent Advisory Council. She worked with the Fulton County school's PTSA to recruit native Spanish-speaking parents to build ties to the Hispanic community, as about a third of the students are Hispanic. Also, realizing that many of the Hispanic students participated in soccer, Pabian secured a free soccer game and established a community partnership with her daughter's Soccer League, Santos Soccer Club.
