The principal of Atlanta Public Schools’ Douglass High School has resigned.

Principal Eldrick Horton told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution he resigned Monday for “personal reasons.” He said he’ll continue to serve as the school’s principal through June 16.

Atlanta Public Schools did not respond to questions about the circumstances of his resignation, but Horton said he was not asked to resign.

“I resigned on my own,” he said. “I’ve had some desire to do something different and that’s what I’m going to pursue.”

Horton was hired as Douglass’s principal in 2012. He previously served in the same role from 2001-2006 and also worked as a principal in the Fulton County Schools and at other APS schools.
