DeKalb County hopes to hire nearly 400 teachers before school starts in August.

The county school system wants to raise teacher salaries and is taking other steps such as recruiting at historic black colleges and universities to hire for the 372 positions it has open. Hiring teachers has become more competitive as the number of students going into the field has dropped in Georgia and nationally.

Local districts are also holding job fairs to boost potential pools of employees.
