The DeKalb County Board of Education is expected to pick new school board leadership, among other things, at its first scheduled meeting of the year.

The board’s meeting and work session is expected to be called to order at 1 p.m., with the group immediately convening in an executive session before working its way through items in its work session and Committee of the Whole meeting.

Board members MIchael Erwin and Marshall Orson have been the group’s chair and vice-chairman, respectively, since early 2018. Last year’s leadership vote ended with a second term for Erwin after a unanimous decision, but a return for Orson after no nominee received a majority of votes. Board member Vickie B. Turner received three of the seven board votes, while Orson and Joyce Morley each received two apiece.

The board could also divulge information from a meeting held Wednesday to discuss superintendent candidates with search firm BWP & Associates. That meeting was held in closed session due to state confidentiality rules on candidate information.
