The DeKalb County School District is ending its relationship with its outside legal counsel.

Monday evening, the board approved an agreement with Gregory, Doyle, Calhoun & Rogers, LLC during its monthly meeting at a rate of $195 an hour for attorneys and $120 an hour for paralegals, not including expenses and any complex litigation. Fees for those services will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

The board currently does work with Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP. The district's former chief counsel from Nelson Mullins, Nina Gupta, became chief legal adviser for Atlanta Public Schools in August.

According to the agenda for Monday’s school board meeting, the firm will provide legal advice on the district’s Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax program, guidance on student and personnel matters as well as real estate and litigation.
