Office Depot gave the DeKalb County School District 1,200 bags of school supplies Wednesday, with NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart on hand for the announcement at Henderson Mill Elementary School.

The system was among 17 to receive the donation of “sackpacks” as part of the Office Depot’s national school donation program.

More than 71 percent of DeKalb students get assistance for meals, said Superintendent Cheryl Atkinson, so parents often can’t afford such school supplies.
