Parents and students worried about crime on Georgia’s college and university campuses can take a breather.

You may read about stick-ups and rapes in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, but crimes on campus are not out of control. In fact, in-town college students, where campus crime is highest, are generally safer than the average Georgian.

Several high-profile crimes took place in the past 12 months that got headlines — a couple of shootings on several campuses, some armed robberies, a home invasion — but the majority of crimes are property crimes — theft of one sort or another.

You can find out how many crimes, and what type of crimes, took place on each Georgia college campus here.

The AJC took a look at the facts and talked to parents and students about their concerns in a Sunday story. We will continue to keep an eye on this issue.
