Cobb County’s school board has scheduled two public hearings Tuesday, in the morning and afternoon, on the tax digest.

The first hearing is from 8 to 8:30 a.m. and the second from 6 to 6:30 p.m., both in the board room at the district’s central office, 514 Glover St., Marietta.

The board proposes maintaining the current millage rate of 18.90. The school district’s portion of the revenue generated by the increase in the county’s tax digest, the assessed value of property, is estimated at 6 percent, enough to cover about $976 million in spending. The budget the board recently adopted calls for more than $986 million in expenditures. The $10 million difference would be covered with a reserve fund balance, according to school district documents.

The board plans to adopt the millage rate at a meeting July 20.
