It looks as if one incumbent Cobb County school board member is facing a runoff with a newcomer vying for the seat.

Incumbent Timothy Stultz and Susan Thayer, both Republicans, appear to be competing for the Post 2 school board seat, which includes the Smyrna area, in July’s runoff — based on results from Tuesday’s primary. Democrat Kenya Pierre will run against the winner in the fall.

Eight candidates were competing for the three available seats on the school board in Tuesday’s primary.

Incumbent Scott Sweeney appears headed to re-election with a win over Kevin Nicholas, both Republicans, for east Cobb’s Post 6. There is no Democrat in the race.

In addition, newcomer David Chastain looks to have won over fellow newcomer Bill Scott, both Republicans, for the Post 4 seat, representing northeast Cobb. There is no Democrat in the race.
