Cobb’s school board Monday tentatively approved several budget cuts for next year to close an estimated $86.4 million budget deficit.

The board voted 4-3 to present to the public a list of cuts which includes reducing 182 teaching positions through attrition and pulling $32 million from its savings.

The board will hold several meetings in the upcoming weeks to gather community feedback. They are expected to make a final decision in May.

Changes to the list of cuts were made right up to the morning of the vote, including cutting $2.7 million from next year’s athletic budget and mostly scrapping a plan to convert several high school classes online.

Opponents said the proposed cuts only pushes more difficult cuts down the road.
