Clayton County Schools is expanding its reading initiative to promote reading as a year-round imperative.

The revamped campaign, Clayton Reads in Every Season: A Book a Day - the Clayton Way! is to improve grade-level proficiency by making reading a lifelong love. According to a district release, reading proficiency by the first grade is an important predictor of high school graduation and further success.

Clayton Reads was initially established as a summer program.

“Literacy is the foundation of success,”Clayton County Public Schools Superintendent Luvenia Jackson said. “We know literacy combats a host of social and economic issues as we strive to put our students in the best possible situation to succeed and it starts with reading and comprehension.”
