Rachel Wasserman at Woodstock Elementary School was named Georgia’s assistant principal of the year by the Georgia Association of Elementary School principals.
“You have been chosen by your peers because you exemplify educational leadership of the highest quality,” said Georgia Association of Elementary School Principals Executive Director Hal Beaver.
Wasserman also got a $500 award. As an assistant principal, she has focused on developing collaborative leadership with teachers and community partnerships and beginning several new initiatives including the establishment of a new positive behavior program and the creation of a school garden.
Mr. Beaver was joined in making the presentation by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower and members of his senior staff.
“Assistant Principal Wasserman is a dynamic leader who has earned the respect of colleagues at her school, the District and statewide,” Hightower said.
Ms. Wasserman has served as assistant principal for two years after success as a classroom teacher beginning in 2006, including being named the school’s 2013-14 Teacher of the Year. She earned her master’s in early childhood education and specialist in educational leadership degrees from Kennesaw State University.
