Not only does Buford City Schools have a brand-new, state-of-the-art campus for high schoolers, it’s transitioning lower grades to make use of all available space.

Starting Wednesday, the former high school has now become the middle school. The former middle school is now the newly formed Buford Senior Academy which will house fourth- and fifth-graders. Buford Academy used to house second through fifth-graders but now houses first through third-graders. Buford Elementary will now be home to kindergartners and provide daycare for school system staffers.

With all the moving around, district officials are sure there may be some first-day confusion for the estimated 5,000 students and their parents. They’ve put together a plan to help make pick-up and drop-off run as smoothly as possible.

There are two entrances to access the high school -- Buford Highway and Thompson Mill Road. For safety reasons, parents are asked to drop students off at the front of the school and not in the parking lot.

“Our [school police] have worked with the schools to ensure these are the safest routes for our students,” said district spokeswoman Kerri Leland.

In addition, the high school went the extra mile and made a video with their navigation information.
