Tejas Khorana, a senior at Cobb County's Wheeler High School in Marietta and Heeyoon Kim, a senior at Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology in Conyers, are the statewide winners of the 2012-13 Siemens Awards for Advanced Placement. The awards recognize the nation's top achievers in Advanced Placement Program courses in science, technology, engineering and mathematics with a $2,000 college scholarship to one male and one female student in each state. Two national winners will be selected to receive $5,000 scholarships.

Three Clayton County Fine Arts students have been selected as Georgia honorees in The National Art and Writing Awards Quentrez George, a senior at Mount Zion High School, won the Gold Medal top honor. Divine Martin of Mount Zion and Andre Price of Morrow High School earned honorable mentions. George's entry, titled "Falling" will be on display at the Atlanta Campus of the Savannah College of Art and Design and will move to the national competition in the spring. In the last five years, National Art and Writing Awards recipients have earned more than $25 million in scholarships.

Students from Brandon Hall School in Dunwoody won the team competition in their division at the Georgia Southwestern State University 39th annual math tournament. Sponsored by the AT&T Foundation, the competition is a qualifier for the state math tournament. Students from 45 high schools competed in the written and ciphering problem-solving portions. In all, 422 students competed in six Georgia High School Association divisions and two Georgia Independent School Association divisions. Brandon Hall students Baishen Huang and Shiyu "Ace" Zhu won first and second place, respectively in the GISA-AA division and Huang won the GISA overall award. As a team, Brandon Hall won first place in their division. Other first place team winners in their respective divisions were: First Presbyterian Day School, Calhoun High School, Oconee County High School, Columbus High School, Creekview High School, Rockdale Magnet School and Tattnall Square Academy.
