An Atlanta group that planned to stage a “die-in” Tuesday to call for gun-law changes announced on social media it cancelled the event because of weather.

The protest, organized by the group that conducted Atlanta's March for Our Lives, was to have taken place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Liberty Plaza in downtown Atlanta.

The group announced on various social media pages that the event had been cancelled because of “safety concerns arising from the weather forecast.” The group said it planned to reschedule the rally and protest.

The event was one of several scheduled across the country -- in cities including Dallas, Nashville and Philadelphia -- to mark the second anniversary of the deadly Pulse nightclub mass shooting in Orlando, Fla.

Last month, students staged a “die-in” by lying on the floor in Publix stores after the February school shooting in Parkland, Fla. The students protested the grocery chain’s political contributions to a candidate who supports the National Rifle Association.

Die-ins have also taken place in protest of police shootings of unarmed black men.

Organizers of the National Die-In said their aim is to "reduce gun violence through common sense gun control legislation," according to the group's website.

Metro Atlanta students have participated in several protests since the Florida school shooting. In March, thousands of area students walked out of school  as part of another national protest.
