Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Meria Carstarphen will give the 2018 State of the District presentation next month at the newly built Walden Sports Complex.

The district paid for the $8 million athletic complex, at the site of the former Walden Middle School in the Old Fourth Ward, using money from a one-cent sales tax.

The complex — which features a field house and athletic fields — is scheduled to open with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Oct. 5 before the State of the District speech begins at 11 a.m.

The annual State of the District event includes a presentation by the superintendent. It also showcases students and updates the community about what is happening in the district.

The public is invited to attend. The district asks those interested to RSVP first, which can be done online here.
