Atlanta schools ‘closely monitoring’ Hurricane Florence

Stormcenter 7 Chief Meteorologist Eric Elwell is tracking the latest information on Hurricane Florence. Some forecast models do show some impacts of the storm into the Ohio Valley late in the weekend.

Atlanta Public Schools is “closely monitoring” the hurricane expected to hit the Carolina coast later this week, district officials said in a statement released Tuesday.

While the impact to Georgia is expected to be limited, APS said some forecasts show possible increased heavy rain or wind from remnants of Hurricane Florence in the eastern part of the state.

"We advise everyone to continue to monitor the weather forecast closely over the coming days. We will continue to monitor the forecast track and will update you if inclement weather is expected to affect normal school operations. In the case of severe weather, APS parents, guardians and employees can expect to hear from us here on social media and through the following channels: robocalls, robotexts, APS Mobile App, emails, and through our website at www.atlantapublicschools.us," the district said.

Last September, metro Atlanta schools canceled classes because of Hurricane Irma. That storm caused power outages and downed lines throughout the area.
