New leaders have been appointed to head the Atlanta school board's budget, policy and accountability committees.

School board Chairman Jason Esteves announced committee assignments this week.

Board member Michelle Olympiadis will take over from Nancy Meister as chairwoman of the budget committee, which is tasked with developing the district's annual budgets, which exceed $1 billion.

Kandis Wood Jackson will lead the policy committee, previously chaired by Cynthia Briscoe Brown. Briscoe Brown is now the chairwoman of the newly reinstated board development committee, which will work to create a governance manual that will codify the board’s policies and processes.

The board’s vice-chairwoman, Eshè Collins, will take over from Esteves as the head of the accountability commission. That group is in charge of developing goals for the superintendent’s performance evaluation.

Board members serving on the audit committee are Erika Mitchell, Leslie Grant and Aretta Baldon. The audit committee also includes community members, and the committee selects its chairman.
