For parents who like to plan ahead: Atlanta Public Schools has revised the student calendar for the 2021-2022 school year.

The school board last week approved changes to the 2021-2022 calendar, including moving up the first day of school.

The district releases academic calendars a couple of years in advance and sometimes makes changes based on parent and staff feedback.

The calendar for next school year, or the 2020-2021 year, calls for school to begin Aug. 10, 2020, though it’s still unknown how the coronavirus will impact the upcoming year’s schedule.

But for those thinking almost a year and a half ahead, there's a new 2021-2022 schedule that has Atlanta students returning to school on Thursday, Aug. 5, 2021. That's several days before the original Monday, Aug. 9, 2021, start date.

The revised calendar also features a longer fall break in October. Students and teachers will get days off on Oct. 7 and 8, 2021, and teachers will return for a professional development day on Oct. 11, 2021. The old version gave students two days off and teachers one day off.

There’s also a longer winter break in February.

Spring break remains the week of April 4-8, 2022, and the last day of the year is still May 26, 2022.

District officials revised the calendar after seeking input from parents and staff.
