Atlanta Public Schools announced three teachers who are finalists for the district's new Excellence in Teaching award.

The winner will be decided by a panel interview and classroom observation and announced Nov. 7. That person will then be in the running for the 2020 Georgia Teacher of the Year honor.

The three APS finalists are:

  • Tracey Pendley, fourth grade teacher at Burgess Peterson Academy.
  • Dan Lloyd, eighth grade teacher at Sutton Middle School.
  • Stephen Lawrence, orchestra teacher at North Atlanta High School.
