Eight teams of students from metro Atlanta middle schools will compete for state bragging rights to become state champion in the PAGE Academic Bowl on Jan. 23.

The Professional Association of Georgia Educators puts on the academic competition yearly. The teams of students answer questions on subjects ranging from Georgia history to math, science, literature and performing arts.

Twenty-four middle school teams survived earlier competitions and the metro winners were: Hightower Trail and Palmer middle schools from Cobb County; South Forsyth Middle School from Forsyth County; Webb Bridge Middle School from Fulton County.

Also: Chamblee Middle School from DeKalb County; Renfroe Middle School from Decatur City Schools; Five Forks and North Gwinnett middle schools from Gwinnett County.
