Fulton County Schools will host an educational meeting next week about the dangers of pot-laced snacks.

The district scheduled the informational session, titled “The Dont’s and Dont’s of Marijuana Edibles,” for 6:30 p.m. March 27 at Westlake High School, 2400 Union Road SW.

The meeting is a chance to provide “parent and community education about current student safety issues,” according to an event announcement.

The event will include a discussion of the signs, symptoms and dangers of marijuana-laced edibles.

Those who wish to attend should email the district at community@fultonschools.org.

On Valentine's Day, 28 students from Sandtown Middle School in south Fulton County were taken to local hospitals after complaining of symptoms ranging from hallucinations to vomiting. A GBI lab test later found THC, a chemical in marijuana, in a cereal treat eaten by students.

The district announced that five students faced school disciplinary consequences, that could include suspension or expulsion, for sharing the drug-infused treat. The district has yet to release information about a separate school police investigation to determine if criminal charges also should be filed.
