About 100 students affected by Atlanta schools rezoning plan

Atlanta Public Schools notified parents it plans to rezone the Grady High School cluster because of growth on the district’s east side.

About 100 students from the Grady cluster will be affected by the proposed change, though officials have said that students enrolled as of Dec. 4 in Morningside Elementary School, Inman Middle School, and Grady High School will be able to remain at those schools until they graduate. But any siblings of those students who enroll in APS for the first time next school year will attend schools in the North Atlanta High School cluster, which includes Sutton Middle School, wrote Superintendent Meria Carstarphen in a Nov. 15 letter to parents.

The affected areas include the Cheshire Bridge corridor, where students will shift to Garden Hills Elementary and where the district said a new development will bring more than 400 housing units, and Armour Drive corridor, where students will go to E. Rivers Elementary School.

A parent meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Morningside Elementary School. Carstarphen said the school board is expected to vote on the matter Monday.
