The comedian John Oliver, host of HBO's late-night "Last Week with John Oliver," released a video declaring what he thinks is the obvious: New Year's Eve is the worst.

"New Year's Eve is like the death of a pet. You know it's going to happen, but somehow you're never prepared for how truly awful it is," Oliver said, adding that the holiday involves too much being cold, too much being with strangers and too much Ryan Seacrest

Oliver -- who's been on something of a tear about these things lately -- then lays out some convenient excuses for getting out of any NYE events, the better to be home in bed by 11:45 p.m. (If worse comes to worse, simply say: I'm on a cleanse.)
