One of metro Atlanta’s most acclaimed music acts won’t have to travel far from home to headline an upcoming music festival.

The Indigo Girls, a folk rock duo from Decatur, will headline the Amplify Decatur Music Festival on October 2. The music festival will be one of four large events to take place in the city in early October, signaling a return of festivals and gatherings at this stage in the COVID-19 pandemic.

The music festival is hosted by Amplify My Community, and all of the event proceeds will go to Decatur Cooperative Ministry, a nonprofit that works to prevent and alleviate homelessness throughout the city and DeKalb County. It’s also a partnership with Eddie’s Attic, Lenz, Inc. and several local sponsors and vendors.

“It’s been a long time coming, and we are so excited to be back in (Decatur) Square this year celebrating and recognizing (Decatur Cooperative Ministry) in their heroic efforts to help families facing poverty settle into safe, stable homes and build healthy lives,” Drew Robinson, president of the Amplify board, said in a news release.

The release added that the festival is working with the city to “develop a plan that will ensure public safety and a healthy environment.” The Amplify Decatur Music Festival will be joined by the Decatur Craft Beer Festival, Decatur Arts Festival and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Decatur Book Festival, which will all take place between Oct. 1 and 3.

The two-day music festival will be located in Decatur Square at the corner of Church Street and East Ponce De Leon Avenue. There will be a free concert on Oct. 1, but details about performers and times have not been released. The Grammy-winning Indigo Girls will headline performances on Oct. 2, which will take place from 4 to 11 p.m. The other acts that day will include Old 97′s, Blind Boys of Alabama, The Cactus Blossoms and Michelle Malone.

Tickets to the Oct. 2 concert will go on sale noon Monday, July 19, and can be purchased at amplifydecatur.org. General admission is $60, VIP access is $150 and premium VIP tickets are $250.
