A Texas woman had a harrowing experience on a Houston interstate highway, suffering only minor cuts after a flying tire crushed the front of her car, KHOU reported.
Kaniesha Lynn was driving north on I-45 Thursday morning when a tire flew off another vehicle and hit a center barrier, the television station reported. The tired then bounced into the northbound lanes toward her vehicle.
"And it could have hit my side, but I just so happened to swerve out of the way, and it hit the right side of my car instead of my side," Lynn told KHOU. "I knew if I didn't move that that could have been my life. I started crying. I immediately turned on my hazard lights and slowed down, and another bystander actually saw what happened and he saw me trying to get the car moved off the road, and he slowed down with me, because I couldn't see, so I could get over to the shoulder."
The tire destroyed Lynn’s windshield and crushed the vehicle’s roof on the passenger side, the television station reported. Lynn suffered minor cuts to her face.
Flying objects have been a problem on Houston interstates, with three incidents since October.
On Dec. 7, about 25 students and teachers on a school bus headed for a field trip barely avoided injuries when an 18-wheeler lost a giant spool, KTRK reported. On Oct. 25, drivers dodged a giant spool that rolled onto I-10 just before lunchtime. On Nov. 12, drivers avoided two spools near the East Freeway, the television station reported.
