Henry County police say they have a suspect in the Wednesday shooting of a Stockbridge High School basketball player.

Authorities issued a news release Friday saying the public should be on the lookout for Jahmal Deshad Holman, 20, who is wanted on an aggravated assault charge in connection with the shooting of Devale Johnson. Holman, who is 5-foot-7 and 130 pounds and goes by the name Benji, is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to call 911.

Johnson, a point guard who is headed to Cincinnati State College on a full scholarship, was taken to Atlanta Medical Center with a wound in his lower back region, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Johnson posted on Twitter: “Doctor said its a blessing I’m alive. God is real … just thankful to see another day.”

The shooting resulted from a dispute, apparently over a girl.

“Evidently it had something to do with a female,” Henry police Lt. Joey Smith told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Thursday. “They were going to meet to fight, have a brawl, and the brawl turned into somebody getting shot.”

The altercation took place in a secluded area of Eagle’s Landing High School property that had become a place to meet up and sometimes fight, Smith told The AJC.
