A Gwinnett County teenager has been charged with murder for allegedly killing his girlfriend during a drug deal.

Omar Ezzikouri, 18, was arrested Sunday and charged with felony murder and conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Deon Washington said. That controlled substance was Xanax, he said.

Washington said officers responded to a person shot call in the 900 block of Arlington Drive near Tucker shortly before 8:30 p.m. Saturday and found 18-year-old Jessica Moreno “inside the home with a gunshot wound.”

“(Moreno) was transported to an area hospital where she died from her injuries,” Washington said. “Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to the scene and a search warrant was executed at the home.”

Ezzikouri, who was Moreno’s boyfriend and lived at the location, called 911 to report the shooting and remained at the scene, Washington said. He was interviewed at Gwinnett police headquarters.

“Based on the evidence and the statements collected during the investigation,” Washington said, “it was determined that Jessica was shot by Omar as the two were participating in the distribution of a controlled substance.”

Few details were available regarding the incident, but Washington did say that “it’s possible” Ezzikouri accidentally shot his girlfriend.

“Supposedly there were going to be other parties involved (in the alleged drug deal),” Washington said, “but police only made contact with the victim and suspect.”

Gwinnett County jail records showed Ezzikouri was being held without bond.
