Gwinnett County police say the driver of the SUV stopped and got out of his car, approached the scene, then returned to the car and fled.

Gwinnett County police have identified the make and model of the SUV driven by a suspect involved in a hit-and-run crash that left a motorcycle rider dead Saturday evening.

Investigators are searching for an older model Nissan Armada made sometime between 2012 and 2016, Gwinnett police spokeswoman Hideshi Valle said in a news release. The large SUV is a dark color, either black or blue.

Michael Turner, 27, of Lawrenceville, was riding his motorcycle on Stone Mountain Highway just before 5 p.m. when the Armada performed a U-turn in front of him, Valle said. Turner swerved to avoid the SUV and lost control, crashing and hitting a tree. He died from the injuries he sustained in the crash.

The man driving the SUV stopped, got out of his car and approached the scene of Turner’s crash, Valle said. He then returned to his vehicle and drove away. The crash took place near the intersection of Stone Mountain Highway and Parkwood Road, a busy stretch lined with car dealerships.

The investigation is ongoing, Valle said. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Gwinnett police Accident Investigation Unit at 678-442-5653.
