Every area has its fair share of crime and natural disasters, but some places are more dangerous than others. And unfortunately, Georgia is one of them, according to WalletHub's 2017 safest states in America report.

The finance website came up with its results by analyzing the 50 states using 37 metrics including most law enforcement employees, fewest assaults and low employment rates. Those sections were filtered into five major categories: personal and residential safety; financial safety; road safety; workplace safety; and emergency preparedness.

Georgia was No. 32, overall. Vermont and Maine took first and second place, respectively.

While the Peach State was was No. 12 for road safety, its low financial safety ranking (No. 45) helped it fall to the bottom of the pack. It was also No. 46 for highest share of population lacking health insurance.

Georgia wasn’t the only Southern state at the end of the list. Arkansas was No. 45, Louisiana was No. 49 and Mississippi was No. 50.
