Atlanta isn’t the only city in the nation experiencing scary weather on the spookiest night of the year. Many cities across the United States are being deluged with rain and falling temperatures, with some communities canceling Halloween festivities because of the bad weather.

In Atlanta, WSB meteorologist Brian Monahan said rain and thunderstorms are on hand for most of metro Atlanta through Thursday afternoon. Cold temperatures will then move in on Halloween night.

A freeze warning has been issued for north Georgia from Thursday night until 10 a.m. Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, wet weather could also soak any brave souls who are trick-or-treating from across the Deep South to much of the East Coast.

A low-pressure system is forecast to strengthen and head toward the Great Lakes region on Thursday and into New England on Friday. That system is expected to bring strong to severe thunderstorms across the central Appalachians to the Mid-Atlantic region.

The system is also expected to bring wet snow across the Midwest and into the Great Lakes on Halloween night. The Milwaukee area is expected to see as much as 6 inches. Flooding could occur from the central Appalachians into western New England on Thursday night.

And out West, deadly fire conditions continue to plague California, with strong winds throughout Halloween afternoon before subsiding Thursday night.
