Terrance Danyl Pressey, 37, of Dania Beach, is charged with failing to stop at an accident with a death and misdemeanor possession of less than 20 grams of cannabis, according to the Broward County Sheriff's Office.

The incident occurred Oct. 27 in Dania Beach, according to the Sheriff's Office. It was not clear why Pressey's arrest did not happen until Thursday, the Sun-Sentinel reported.

Madhusudhan Bhetwal, 53, died at the scene in Dania Beach, according to the Sheriff's Office. Police said it appeared Bhetwal was trying to cross the road when he was hit by Pressey's 2011 Dodge Charger. According to the Sheriff's Office, Bhetwal may have been impaired by alcohol.

According to authorities, Pressey left the scene but called 911. He was still on the phone when he returned to the crash scene and saw paramedics attempting to save Bhetwal's life, the Sun-Sentinel reported.

Pressey said he left the accident scene because he had to drop someone off, the newspaper reported. Pressey later allegedly admitted to police he had no passengers, but had to "drop off his weed," the Sun-Sentinel reported.

Pressey remains in jail in lieu of a $20,000 bond, according to the Sheriff's Office.
