The Fulton County Board of Commissioners recognized Allison Kerley Townsend for the work that earned her the title as the 2019 Georgia Teacher of the Year.

The board honored her with a proclamation Wednesday, June 20.

Townsend is a third grade teacher at Barnwell Elementary School in Johns Creek who was picked by the state Department of Education for her expertise.

Georgia's Teacher of the Year Program spotlights the teaching profession and recognizes outstanding public school teachers at the local and state levels. As Teacher of the Year, Townsend will represent Georgia teachers by speaking to communities about the teaching profession and possibly conducting workshops and programs for educators.
