The suspect who Clayton County police fired on after he allegedly hit an officer and other people in the parking lot of a bowling alley early Tuesday has turned himself in, a department spokeswoman said.

About 1 a.m., police responded to a fight at Pin Strikes on Mount Zion Road in Stockbridge, Officer Charlene Watson-Fraser said.

According to Channel 2 Action News, the fight broke out during a bowling tournament between local businesses and spilled out into the parking lot.

When officers arrived, police said Mark Anthony Pate, 37, intentionally started hitting people and an officer with his a white sedan.

“The sedan continued moving through the parking lot hitting even more people,” Watson-Fraser said. “Soon after, a Clayton County Police Officer discharged one round from his service weapon into the driver’s side window.”

The suspect drove away.

Neither the officer nor the other people hit by the sedan required medical attention, police said.

Late Tuesday morning, Pate turned himself in, and was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, aggravated assault, obstruction of police, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving, Watson-Fraser said.
