The search continued Friday for the driver who hit a school crossing guard outside a Henry County elementary school.
The guard was struck about 7:15 a.m. Thursday by a white Volkswagen Jetta at Mt. Carmel Elementary School on Mt. Carmel Road near Hampton, according to Henry County police spokesman Capt. Randy Lee. The guard was standing in the road directing traffic before school and was not helping any children to cross at the time, Lee said.
The driver of the Volkswagen left the scene after the collision, police said in a lookout.
The crossing guard was taken to Piedmont Henry Hospital to be treated for minor injuries, although Lee said he did not suffer any broken bones. He was released from the hospital later Thursday.
Police took to social media to ask the public for leads on the identification of the driver. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. Eck at 770-288-8216.
