Police said a documented gang member wanted in three metro Atlanta counties was arrested last week after a short chase.
A video released Monday afternoon of the arrest showed Victavious Terrell running from officers before being handcuffed. Terrell, who was wanted in Atlanta for theft by taking and entering an auto in March 2021 and financial fraud in November 2021, was driving through the area of Pryor Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in a silver SUV when an officer spotted him and attempted a traffic stop May 18, according to authorities.
Terrell immediately abandoned the car and ran off, according to police. Body camera footage showed an officer running after Terrell and jumping over a fence, at which point the camera fell off the officer.
At the end of the pursuit and when Terrell was already in handcuffs, an officer told him, “Mr. Terrell, you got warrants, man,” to which Terrell responded with, “I got warrants for what?”
Inside the SUV, two 9mm handguns were found underneath the front passenger seat, the video revealed. The vehicle was impounded and both guns were confiscated. Police did not say if the SUV was stolen.
In addition to his warrants in Atlanta, police said Terrell was among the department’s top five auto larceny suspects.
In Clayton County, Terrell was wanted for aggravated assault, criminal trespass, terroristic threats and possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime in a January 2021 incident, a police report obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution shows.
The victim told officers at the time that Terrell went to her home to pick up money and a physical fight ensued. Terrell questioned the victim about another man, then began choking her, according to the report. He told the victim he was “going to kill her for breaking his heart,” the report states. The fight continued, but the victim was not shot.
Terrell also has warrants in Sandy Springs for aggravated assault and robbery, and in Henry County for reckless driving, striking a fixed object and driving without a valid license in January 2020 at a Marathon gas station.
He remains in the Fulton County Jail, where his bond was set at $17,000.
