A woman in Decatur was shot Thursday morning after a man forced her into her car at gunpoint and compelled her to make withdrawals at several ATMs, police said. The woman was able to drive herself to the hospital after the man shot her in the leg.

The incident began around 7:30 a.m. when the woman, who was not identified, was approached by the man in the 200 block of North Arcadia Avenue, Decatur police said in a statement. The man pulled a gun and forced the woman into her car, then got in the car himself.

After the woman made withdrawals at “several” ATMs, according to Decatur police, she made a final stop at an ATM in the 3400 block of Memorial Drive. The area is home to the Belvedere Plaza strip mall, anchored by a Kroger with an ATM.

At the Memorial Drive location, the man shot the woman in the leg and fled, police said. The woman suffered a non-life-threatening injury and was able to drive herself to a nearby hospital.

According to police, investigators are gathering evidence and following up on leads in the case. Anyone with information is asked to contact Decatur police at 404-373-6551 or Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta at 404-577-8477 to remain anonymous.
