A body was found inside a car on fire Friday morning in an industrial area of DeKalb County, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The vehicle went up in flames in the area of Coffee Road and South Stone Mountain Lithonia Road, which is home to an auto part junkyard and several warehouses. Fire crews discovered a man’s body inside about 3:15 a.m., Channel 2 reported.

The body was discovered inside a burned sedan, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Sammy Higgins, who said he works at the junkyard, said the man killed had been sleeping in a car on the lot for about a month. He did not know the man’s name.

Arson investigators and the DeKalb County police crime scene unit were both processing the scene Friday morning. Police confirmed they were conducting a death investigation but did not offer any additional details, citing the active nature of the case.

DeKalb County fire and police are investigating the circumstances of the man's death.
