A toddler  has died one day after she was struck by a vehicle in the driveway of a Gainesville home, authorities said.

Nazareth Alarcon, who was nearly 2 years old, died in Northeast Georgia Medical Center due to the injuries she sustained in the wreck, Gainesville police said Sunday.

Officers were called to a house on Auburn Avenue shortly just before 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Gainesville police previously.

Based on the initial investigation, authorities believe the girl ran into the driveway and in front of a moving vehicle driven by a family member, Gainesville police spokesman Lt. Justin Martin said.

“The incident appears to be an accident,” police said.

Nazareth was rushed to the hospital in critical condition Saturday afternoon.

“Cur thoughts and prayers are with the family during these tragic and trying times,” Gainesville police Chief Jay Parrish said. “We cannot begin to imagine what the family is going through, however we will be here to support them in anyway we can.”
