A man trying to end to a fight in northwest Atlanta early Tuesday injured a woman when he fired into a crowd, police said.

Two unidentified women were brawling in the Flipper Temple apartment complex about 1 a.m., according to a police report obtained by AJC.com. A man, identified by police as Joshua Wright, tried to break them apart by firing a shot into the crowd.

“One round struck the victim in her mid-section, causing her to be in critical condition,” Atlanta police said in the report.

Authorities were called to the complex, located in the 2400 block of Abner Terrace, and the 28-year-old victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. She was stable and in recovery as of 4 a.m., according to police.

Witnesses told investigators the gunman took off before officers arrived. They gave a description of the man and said he drove away in a white vehicle. Police were searching for him overnight.

He is still at large.
