Woman accused of eluding police, driving erratically — with 2 kids unrestrained in backseat

Channel 2's Christian Jennings reports.

A woman is accused of driving 88 mph, eluding Georgia State Patrol troopers, running a red light, driving on the wrong side of the road and crashing into a tree — all while her two young kids were unrestrained in the backseat.

Jameria Alexander, 29, is charged with several crimes, including eluding police and reckless driving, Channel 2 Action News reported.

She was allegedly speeding on I-85 South in Coweta County around 1 a.m. Sunday, and the chase didn’t end until troopers performed a PIT maneuver to force her off the road on Ga. 154, Channel 2 reported.

When troopers arrived at the wrecked vehicle, they said they found her 4-year-old and 7-year-old and they weren’t in their car seats, the news station reported.

The children weren’t injured, but Alexander was. She was taken to the hospital before being booked into the Coweta County Jail, Channel 2 reported. She has since bonded out.

GSP told the news station the trooper didn’t know the children were in the car when he performed the PIT maneuver.
