The widow of man killed by a stray bullet while sitting in his College Park apartment said Tuesday she needs money to pay for his funeral.
Ricketta Moore, 34, was tearful at a news conference as she described being numb at the death of her husband, Robert Moore, at the Roosevelt Park Apartments last week.
“I don’t think it has really hit me yet because I’m trying to stay strong for my kids,” the widow said. “I’m trying not to cry in front of the kids. My son wakes up asking for his dad.”
Four children lived with the couple: three sons, ages 10, 4 and 1, and an 18-year-old daughter. Robert Moore, 52, also had a 29-year-old son and a 23-year-old daughter from a previous marriage and was a grandfather, his widow said.
Moore asks that donations be made to www.gofundme.com/wx8rhk3u.
“We have nothing and we need everything,” said Moore, describing more than $10,000 in funeral expenses. “I’m just asking for help to bury him.”
Robert Moore had a cleaning and pressure-washing business, she said. The couple had moved to the apartment after a fire at their previous apartment, Moore said.
So far police have arrested one man on a weapons charge. Felerix Cofer, 44, lives in the same building where Moore lived and is believed to have been involved with the shooting, according to police.
Police believe Cofer was upset about people leaning on his car during a basketball game in the parking lot, according to Channel 2 Action News. Authorities believe he got into a shootout with three or four people, and they are looking for additional suspects. Police reported finding 15 shell casings in the parking lot.
Attempts to reach College Park Police regarding whether Cofer’s charges have been increased or whether anyone else has been arrested in the case were not immediately successful.
