A DeKalb County man who was wanted after allegedly firing 11 gunshots at a house — barely missing a 2-year-old sleeping boy — has turned himself into authorities.
Christopher Urvin Simmons, 27, of Lithonia, was taken into custody Friday after being named as the suspect in the Dec. 19 shooting, DeKalb police said in a tweet. He faces a count of first-degree criminal damage to property.
Simmons allegedly shot at the window of a 25-year-old man, who he knew, AJC.com previously said. The man’s mother told police she called Simmons after the shooting to ask if he was the one who fired at the home, and he responded by saying, “I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I was just trying to get someone’s attention,” according to a police report.

Officers responded to the house off Cross Creek Point in unincorporated Stone Mountain about 1:30 a.m., the report said. The window to the man’s bedroom was shattered, and there were bullet holes in his bed’s headboard.
The man and his 2-year-old son were sleeping in that bed at the time of the shooting, and the bullet holes were “just inches away from where the toddler had been laying,” the report said. No one was injured.
Investigators were able to find 11 9mm shell casings at the scene, the report said. The woman’s son told officers he did not know why Simmons would want to hurt him or his child, the report said.
As of Friday night, Simmons remained in the DeKalb County Jail without bond, according to online jail records. AJC.com has reached out to the sheriff’s office to request his new booking photo.
