A DeKalb County man is wanted after firing 11 gunshots at a house, barely missing a 2-year-old sleeping boy, police said.

DeKalb police announced Tuesday that Christopher Simmons, 27, of Lithonia, is wanted on three felonies after the Dec. 19 shooting. No one was injured during the incident, but three people were in the home off Cross Creek Point in unincorporated Stone Mountain at the time.

The homeowner told officers that she heard several knocks on her door about 1 a.m., but she didn’t answer it, according to a police report. She looked through a window to spot a family friend, Simmons, walking away from the house before she heard several gunshots.

Once she checked to make sure everyone in the house was OK, including her 25-year-old son and her grandson, she called Simmons to ask if he shot at their home, the report said. He responded by saying, “I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I was just trying to get someone’s attention,” she told officers.

The man and child had been asleep in the man’s bedroom, which appeared to have be targeted in the shooting. A window was shot multiple times, and there were bullet holes in the bed’s headboard “just inches away from where the toddler had been laying,” the report said. There were also bullet holes in the house’s roof.

Investigators were able to find 11 9mm shell casings at the scene, the report said. Simmons has warrants for two counts of aggravated assault and one count of first-degree criminal damage to property.

Her son told officers he did not know why Simmons would want to hurt him or his son, the report said.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact police at 770-724-7850.
